Venture Global announced on Monday it requested U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval. The company seeks to significantly expand its Plaquemines liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility. This facility is currently under development in Louisiana.

Venture Global proposes adding 30 million metric tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG capacity. This addition would more than double the facility’s previously planned output. The expansion signifies a substantial increase in potential export volume.
Proposed Capacity Increase
FERC initially approved the planned Plaquemines LNG facility for a specific capacity. The new request represents a major upward revision. Industry observers will closely monitor the commission’s review process.
Regulatory Review
The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission oversees interstate natural gas pipelines and LNG terminals. FERC’s review process involves environmental assessments and public comment periods. Such a request requires thorough evaluation before approval.
Plaquemines Project Background
The Plaquemines LNG facility remains under construction in Louisiana. It aims to become a major hub for U.S. natural gas exports. Expanding its capacity could significantly impact global energy markets.
